New Perspectives Partial Hospitalization Program

New Perspectives is a Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Program that helps participants manage the symptoms of depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or anxiety on an ongoing basis. Patients participate in groups as well as one-on-one sessions, returning home in the evenings. New Perspectives is appropriate for the mature adult, age 50 and older.

Patients participate in group therapy, focused on recovery and life enrichment skills Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Participation, or the number of days a week, is determined by an initial assessment and is managed by a multidisciplinary team  comprising nurse practitioners, clinical social workers and other mental health professionals. Under the supervision of one of our specialized older adult psychiatrists, the team approach ensures that all clinical and psychosocial needs are met.

The program includes:

  • Individual assessment to determine level of care
  • Group therapy sessions
  • Individual therapy sessions
  • Progress assessment and case monitoring
  • Medication management
  • Symptom management skills
  • Relapse prevention
  • Cognitive behavioral skills
  • Referral for other services

Each patient receives an individualized discharge plan that includes follow-up aftercare to ensure continued success. Transportation is available within a limited service area and most insurance plans are accepted, including Medicare, and Medicaid, as a secondary source.

Admission Criteria

The following are general guidelines for referrals:

  • Patients may have failed a less-restrictive alternative service, such as outpatient therapy or in-home care, or be stepping down from inpatient psychiatric treatment.
  • Patients must have the capacity to participate in a cognitive based program.
  • Patients must be able to cooperate with a structured program, must be able to attend regularly, and must not be actively suicidal or homicidal.
