About Prevent Blindness Ohio
Prevent Blindness Ohio focuses on reaching and serving those Ohioans that need eye care the most, but are least likely to get to it with our vision care programs that target high-risk populations such as children and the uninsured. Prevent Blindness Ohio is dedicated to working with schools, homeless shelters, employers, churches and other organizations to provide access to quality vision services and education for all Ohioans.
Last year, PBO provided comprehensive vision care services (professional eye exam, eyeglasses and eye surgeries) to 8,442 medically indigent children and adults. We also provided direct services (vision screening, vision screening training and education) to more than 800,000 Ohioans. However, thousands of Ohioans still lack access to comprehensive eye care, and the number of aging Ohioans continues to grow. These factors, coupled with the current economic situation, require that PBO continue to expand its eye health and safety services in Ohio.
Prevent Blindness Ohio is one of 35 nonprofits among 43,000 non-profit organizations around the state to be awarded the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ (OANO) Standards for Excellence Seal. PBO was awarded this certification for demonstrating accountability and ethical standards in their operations, governance, human resources, financial management and fundraising practices.
